Information Technology loves buzz words. These days the hot words are Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web Services. These are hot words because the IT and business community think they can address challenges of agility, cost reduction, deriving business value through technology and IT/business alignment through loose coupling, implementation independence and flexibility (go optimism go!).

We all have heard both the words: Services and Components. But not many have thought about the difference between the two. There is not much difference from the implementation perspective. We may afford not to care about the difference and implement systems as sets of components. When needed, we can use vendor provided tools and “easily” convert component(s) into service(s).

Bollywood movies are like Indian food. You get a craving for them every few days and are almost always disappointed after “enjoying” them. Yesterday was one of those cravings day. Surprisingly, my son was in the mood to let me and my wife watch the movie. I rented two DVDs, came home, set the food on the table, adjusted the AC setting, set the sound in my home theater and turned the movie on.

This blog entry is in response to a discussion at Javaranch I have not read any of the HeadFirst books but I do think certification books in general are good learning resources. Many authors cover the certification material anyway; certifications book authors explicitly mention that and organize their books keeping in mind the objectives of the exam.

I just started this website. A couple of days ago, it occurred to me that I wanted to have web presence - the ability to share KITOs (Knowledge, Ideas, Thoughts and Opinions) with the community. With this realization, I started my search for a web hosting and domain registration service provider. I thought this was as easy as 1, 2 and 3.
- Think about your domain name and look at register.com (or many others) to see whether the domain is available
- Compare the prices and features of various hosting providers, start with the popular ones such as yahoo, Go Daddy and others
- Select one of them and register
